What to do in Valledupar


Valledupar, the world's vallenato capital, is located in a plain area in the middle of Perija's sierra and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Is a must know city because of its natural beauty and its folklore what wraps the whole region.

The Compositor's Museum

This museum was created by the compositor Gabby Arregoces in 2018, where for the first time someone tries to focus on the importance of Vallenato songs composition, which features values and motivates the new generations to recognize the effort and talent behind every vallenato's compositor. Their lives, work and rewards.

Leyenda Vallenata's Festival

Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata.

One of the most important music festivals in Colombia. This festival presents Vallenato music contests for the best accordion player, "caja vallenata" and "guacharaca", as well as the "piquería" (words battle) and the best song. This festival happens during the month of April on a yearly basis in Valledupar.

The Leyenda Vallenata's Park, Consuelo Araujo Noguera.

Located about 8 min away from the hotel, the Leyenda Vallenata's Park has capacity for about 40k assistants, and it is the venue for the Leyenda Vallenata's Festival. In this place tourists can walk around a gallery in where they can find pictures of every Vallenato's king, sin 1968. It carries the name of Consuelo Araujo Noguera, who's one of the people who created the event.

Alfonso Lopez's Plaza

Located about 7 minutes away from the hotel, you will find the main park of the city, with a leafy mango's tree which is the core of the place. There you will find the most emblematic show place named "Francisco el Hombre", which is the scenario in where for the most importan events celebrated in Valledupar. It is framed by a group of houses with Colonial architecture very well preserved, as well as the Concepción's Church and the central government building. The Inmaculada Concepción's church is located in the Alfonso Lopez's plaza, in Valledupar and was built in the XVII century and was recently restored.

Accordion Museum

Located about 7 minutes away, this place is one of the most important touristic spots in Valledupar, also known as the Beto Murgas house. The place is an anthem for the instrument that shapes the modern Valledupar. It offers antique and beautiful designs that exhibit technical evolution and an incredible collection of accordions and their passionate guides.

Purrututú's Alleyway

Located about 8 minutes away from the hotel, you will find one of the most famous alleyways in Cañaguate neighborhood. Nowadays, this please is preserved with bohemian inspiration. It is located in Valledupar's historical center.

Hurtado's Mermaid and the Guatapuri's river

Located about 10 minutes away from the hotel, this majestic sculpture was created by the master Jorge Mestre and is located next to Guatapuri's river, on a rock referenced by the shape of the mythic figure. Is one of the most recognized bath houses in the area, and is shaped by one of the Guatapuri's river ponds, born in Curigua's lake, in the Sierra Nevada. It is surrounded by predominant rocks. Guatapuri's river is the bath house by of the vallenato people. Whenever you visit, don't forget to try butifarra con bollo and the typical food from the area.
